6.4 Useful Links

First-pass draft — not yet reviewed. The content below is written but still awaiting review, and Letters of Marque is an actively changing playtest. Check anything important against your own game.

Where to go for the game, for news, and for help. Everything in the first two sections is first-party — the developer’s own channels or the game itself.

6.4.1 Getting and playing the game

Official access
LinkWhat it is for
Letters of Marque DiscordThe access point. Playtest keys are distributed here, and it is the fastest place to report a problem to the developer.
SteamWhere the game installs and updates, once your key is activated. There is no public store page to link — the playtest does not appear in Steam search, and it reaches your library through key activation rather than a store download.

The playtest is free, but the Discord key is the only way in. See Installation for the full process, including the current graphics-compatibility issues worth knowing about before you start troubleshooting.

6.4.2 Following development

Official development channels
LinkWhat it is for
Developer posts on PatreonThe detailed public record: what was built, why, and what is planned. The best reading if you want to understand the game’s design rather than just play it. Posts are public.
Development board on TrelloThe most current view of work in progress, playtest feedback, and completed tasks.

6.4.3 Community

The Letters of Marque Discord is the centre of community activity as well as the key distribution point: organised sessions, questions answered by people currently sailing, and the first warning when a build breaks something.

You are already on Naval Gaming, which runs this Guide alongside its own community features, and our Naval Gaming Discord is open to captains here.

6.4.4 What to be careful with

Letters of Marque is young, and the gap left by a young game’s missing documentation tends to get filled with material that looks authoritative and is not. Two cautions.

The second caution is about age. Any guide, video, or forum post about a game in active playtest starts going out of date immediately, and this Guide is no exception — every page here tells you when it was last checked so you can weigh it. When something you read disagrees with what the game does, the game is right.
